What is R-410A?
R-410A is a 50/50 azeotropic blend of R-32 (difluoromethane) and R-125 (pentafluoroethane). Introduced in the late 1990s as a replacement for R-22, it operates at higher pressures than R-22 (around 400 psi suction-side typical) and requires equipment specifically rated for it. It is non-flammable (ASHRAE Safety Class A1), has zero ozone depletion potential, and a global warming potential of 2,088 — high enough that the AIM Act is phasing it down for new equipment manufacturing on a stepped schedule through 2036.
