R-404A is an HFC blend historically dominant in commercial refrigeration - supermarkets, walk-in freezers, ice machines and transport refrigeration. Due to its high GWP (3,922), R-404A is being phased down under the AIM Act in new equipment, but remains legal and widely used for servicing the large installed base. For new installations and major retrofits, consider R-448A (Solstice N40) - a lower-GWP drop-in-style replacement.
